I've started a forum, much like the old Chat Shack we had for Sr. High. This time around, it's targeted at discussion for anyone. I think it'd be fun to get back into some random fun, or serious debates....the kinds of things you're not really about to do on Xanga or Facebook.

Here's the link I hope to see you around!

Also....
I've posted this before, but I have a new Xanga site: Yellow_Volkswagen

A New Year

I hate it when I write New Years posts. I really do.
I never have anything of substance to say, and it's all usually just some dumb sentiment that I've made up.

But...this year was completely different, and I think merits a post.

This has been the most memorable, and most full year of my life. One that will stand out to me forever.
It started out like any other...this time last year I had high (and at the time unrealistic) hopes of a good year. And yes, it has been good. But there have been some deeply sad and hurtful times this year. And I, not sure I could say that 2007 has been either a 'good' or 'bad' year, but rather, of great significance.

First of the significant events was the passing of my grandfather, Poppy on July 23rd.
My father woke me up early and said he'd had a stroke. I was so groggy that it didn't register fully and I went back to sleep. He then woke me up about an hour later and told me he'd died.
I've never had a death that close, and I didn't know how to deal with it. I'm not sure I do still.
I realized, I cope with death by withdrawing from it. I've had loss, grief, and regret on my plate even now.
Regret has eaten at me most, I think....I learned so much more about him after his death than in my 20 years of being with him.  I came to find he and I are very much alike. I think if I hadn't been so shy all my life, it'd have been different. It's a struggle still, especially around holidays...when family gathers.

Secondly, about two weeks later it became apparent that I ought to further pursue a relationship that I'd been seeking for over a year. August 7th, I asked Kim out and two days later come the first date. Wonderful. It's all been just wonderful. This relationship has been the greatest experience of my life, it's been just amazing. I've had many friends tell me they've never seen me this happy. And I concur...I am excruciatingly happy. I like to think she is too .
I greatly look forward to us getting to know one another better as time passes; that has been such a great and  fulfilling experience. God has really blessed me.

Third, and more recently my dog Molly died. You can't really compare the death of your grandfather to that of your dog, it's not the same. But it stings even still. I really loved that dog; she was the great dane that my dad had always wanted to have, but really ended up being the dog I took to and cared for. It's odd...every time I go downstairs I expect to look into the left side of the basement and see her. I miss her...she was so sweet, loyal, and gentle. Best dog we've ever had.

2007 was also an excellent year for music. Brandi Carlile, Fountains of Wayne, and KT Tunstall all put out new albums. And last, but not least by any means....the return of LED ZEPPELIN!! Kim introduced me to some awesome music by Elizabeth and the Catapult, Spoon, and (my favorite) Wussy. Great stuff.

My relationships have definitely changed...some for the best, some maybe for worse. Life evolves though, and sometimes you have to let go a bit in order to become who you're meant to be. I always hope, though, that all relationships hold...especially those dear to me (regardless of how they may alter).

2007...gone, but being so significant, in no way to be forgotten.

I have a new site now.... here it is

Hats Off

I just want to express my appreciation for Pearl Jam's Ten.

A wonderful, and crucial [to own] piece of music.

From "How to Like it", by Stephen Dobyns

"But the dog says, Let's go make a sandwich.
Let’'s make the tallest sandwich anyone's ever seen.
And that's what they do and that's where the man's
wife finds him, staring into the refrigerator
as if into the place where the answers are kept"
